Platform, or Instructor-Led Training, is one of the most common types of training. It requires being able to analyze and breakdown complex processes, tasks, and information in such a way that learners can grasp it quickly and instructors can explain it all efficiently.
Training developed well should allow any instructor to pick up the materials and train with credibility. It requires task analysis, research-based expectations, and definable metrics to measure participant response.
The Instructor Guide (IG) is designed for consistency and continuity, which is the only way to get true accountability – for participants and instructors. Our IGs are created so that any trained instructor with a background in the topic can deliver the material and get similar performance and results from participants.
The IGs we create are written as if they are teacher’s editions of textbooks. The left side is the IG, the right side is the Participant’s Guide so the instructor can keep the participants on task.
The IG has all of the information a participant needs to perform well: background information, activity instructions, discussion question prompts, etc. The right margin has ample space for notes and is where images of the slides are placed next to the applicable content.

A lot of courses provide a stapled stack of paper together with slides and notes lines. Participants madly try to record everything the instructor is saying. Or, they are given a notebook and they madly are recording what is on a slide. Either way, they aren’t paying attention to the course.
We create Participant Guides (PG) so that every participant can easily follow along with the content, but is afforded the opportunity to record their impressions, ideas, and epiphanies because they aren’t madly taking notes or copying off of a slide. A participant should be able to use the PG as a reference for the course even after a course.
The PGs we create are written as if they are textbooks by simply copying and pasting the IG and altering the activities, discussions, and content so that the participants can record their experiences.
The right margin also has ample space for notes and is where images of the slides are placed next to the applicable content. The PG make it possible for participants to stay connected and allows them to not worry about missing something if they are connecting with the content.
Slide decks should not be the content delivery method, that’s what a PG and the instructor is for. The slide deck is for the instructor to stay on point; they are 3×5 cards and waypoints for the instructor to work through the material.
They also provide heuristics for the participants to know what is expected of them by the instructor. Each slide has a specific purpose and delivers an intention.
Our slide decks are designed using graphic design psychology for delivering information in succinct and direct ways, but still guide the participant through the content.
The workbook was designed to be separate from the PG because of the number of activities that were provided. By making a workbook, they can keep the content and their thoughts uncluttered, since the workbook is specific to one project.
This way, they have a textbook for reference and a workbook for application. Both would be references, but it keeps the process application clean from the theory.
