Instructor Led Training (ILT) – Virtual and In-person

Advanced Course Design
This is not a “make a better slide deck” course – you will be building a course using learning science and instructional design methods and processes to build better, more defensible training. This is also not a “death by PowerPoint class” – you will be doing a lot of in-class work and provided 1:1 consulting for 90 days once the in-class portion is completed. You will learn:
- A step-by-step process for creating training
- Case law that supports learning science
- Performing analysis, including a performance task analysis
- Developing a Training Design Plan and Measurement Plan
- Creating effective and measurable performance objectives
- Creating instructor and participant guides and slide decks
- Creating rubrics and scenario control documentation
- Developing defensible tests that have content validity
- Creating evaluation tools that measure course efficacy
- And a lot more!
- You are doing more than creating training, you are creating a “learning chain of evidence,” that provides documentation about the decisions you made while building your course. This process takes the “based on my background, training, and experience,” and makes training “based on research, observation, and analysis.”
Materials
All participants will receive a copy of the book Creating Training for Law Enforcement and templates and examples to assist in the development of all work discussed in class. Participants need to have access to a computer loaded with Microsoft Office or Adobe products. Each participant should have a training topic ready to develop. This topic should be something the individual has some degree of expertise in, but not something already developed or created.
The online component is through LETnEC’s Learning Center LMS.

On-going support
Just like learning, our training support doesn’t end when everyone leaves on the final day. We provide continued support to our participants while they put into practice the skills and processes they learn in this course. This course was 30 years in the making – we don’t expect our participants to be ready in 40 hours.
Participants of LETnEC courses will receive continuing support for as long as they want/need it at no additional cost.* Participants are invited to set meetings with their instructor to discuss their training materials and programs after they receive their certificates of completion. LETnEC instructors remain permanent consultants as participants go through their career changing the standards of how law enforcement training is designed and developed.
* The only additional cost would be if a total course or program review is requested, like for a National Certification Program pre-evaluation review.
