What’s the difference?

We offer Course Review and Training Evaluation – what’s the difference between them?

Simply put, with a Course Review, we look at your materials and provide recommendations.

With a Training Evaluation we attend the course like a participant. But, we attend one of two different ways:

We pay to attend the course, provide feedback, and we publish a review using two five-star ratings.
We are paid to attend your course and we provide feedback, but we do not publish a review.

The problem with law enforcement training

There is a lot of training being offered law enforcement personnel by state and private training organizations and instructors. The problem is there is no guarantee that the training or instructor is good, meets any standards, or is worth the time and money.

There is a belief in the training industry that bad training will wash itself out. This is another problem. While it may be true, how many people are we willing to suffer bad training before it does? The results of bad training is poorly trained personnel possibly performing poorly to the detriment of the citizenry, coworkers, and themselves. No one can afford this.

With law enforcement personnel having to pay for a lot of their own training in money and time, they cannot afford to receive bad training. There needs to be a better metric of promoting training other than testimonials – no one posts a bad review of their own work.

There has to be a better way.

The solution

Using our experience in evaluating training and training performance in the corporate, military, and law enforcement worlds, we have created objective, third-party rubrics that will be used to evaluate both the course and the instructor. These rubrics is content agnostic, which means we will not be reviewing the course for the subject of the content – to a degree – but on the course meeting current learning science standards, whether it will pass IADLEST NCP certification, meet POST standards, and meets current case law regarding training.

The instructor evaluation rubric is based on instructor performance and meeting case law standards, as well.

The key to it all

Here is the most important feature of this program – once the rubrics are validated, they will be posted publicly. This won’t be a blind evaluation or secret process: everything is public and available for review.

The next key feature is that all training evaluated, except for those hiring us to evaluate, will be made public. We will maintain a page of training evaluated with our ratings, reviews, and YouTube videos that will be made discussing the course and the instructor. Consider it a “Consumer Reports” or LE training.

We know this will meet with resistance, we have already experienced it with a few training organizations, but we have had far more instructors and training organizations reach out to volunteer being in the validation group and expressing excitement over this program.

If we don’t professionalize our own industry, someone who wants control or has an agenda will.
